Should I check my PSA level?
A recent study showed that routinely checking PSA levels may not be beneficial for prostate cancer screening.
The reason is that when your PSA is elevated, it does not necessarily mean that you have cancer. What happens
frequently however is that you may be referred to a urologist for prostate biopsy which does not necessarily catch all
the cancer cells even if it there. The procedure however carries certain risks. The decision to check the level
is yours. Keep in mind that when you consider all the potential outcomes, early screening with a blood test may not be as
beneficial as we once thought.
